DRAFT — this text is a working draft prepared for review by Teach for Uzbekistan’s legal counsel and has not yet been formally adopted.

1. Who we are

The operator of your personal data is the non-governmental non-commercial organization “Teach for Uzbekistan” (Tashkent, Mustaqillik avenue 7; info@teachforuzbekistan.org) — “TFU”, “we”. This policy covers the TFU Admissions Portal (apply.teachforuzbekistan.org).

2. What data we process

Identity and contact data: full name (including patronymic), date of birth, place of birth, gender, citizenship, phone, email, Telegram username, region and city of residence.

Identity document data: the series and number, issue and expiry dates of your passport or ID card, your personal identification number (JSHSHIR/PINFL), and a scan of the document’s front side. We use it only to verify your identity, prevent duplicate applications, and prepare the documents needed if you are selected. It is visible only to the recruitment and selection team — never to external reviewers.

Application data: education, work experience, language skills, essays, region preferences, referral code, and the documents you upload (photo, passport/ID, resume, diploma, transcript, certificates, recommendation letters).

Technical data: sign-in history (browser and device type, time), notification preferences, and records of messages we send you.

Newsletter: if you subscribe to our monthly newsletter, we use your email address only to send it. You can unsubscribe at any time.

3. Why and on what basis

We process your data solely to run the Fellowship admissions: receiving and evaluating applications, communicating with you, scheduling selection stages, making and communicating decisions, and onboarding accepted candidates.

The legal basis is your consent (Articles 15–17 of Law No. ZRU-547), which you give when registering and confirm when submitting your application. You may withdraw consent at any time by deleting your account (on your dashboard) — this erases your personal data as described below.

4. Who sees your data

Within TFU: the recruitment and selection team and authorized reviewers, each under confidentiality obligations. Reviewers may evaluate applications in a blind mode that hides your name, gender, and contacts.

TFU internal systems: accepted-candidate records are transferred to the TFU Hub, our internal recruitment system.

Processors that host and deliver the service on our instructions: Supabase (database, file storage, authentication), Vercel (hosting), Resend (email delivery), and Telegram (only if you connect it). We do not sell your data or share it for advertising.

5. Storage, security and retention

Data is stored in access-controlled databases with row-level security, encrypted in transit, with tamper-evident audit logging of administrative actions. Note for legal review: hosting regions of the processors listed above must be confirmed against the data-localization requirements of Uzbek law.

We keep application data for the admissions cycle and up to three (3) years afterwards (waitlists, re-application history, reporting), unless you delete your account earlier.

6. Your rights

Under Law No. ZRU-547 you may: access the data we hold about you (write to us and we will send you a copy), correct it, delete it (self-service account deletion in the portal erases your profile, application content, and uploaded documents; submitted-application records are anonymized), withdraw consent, and lodge a complaint with the authorized state body for personal data protection.

To exercise any right, write to us through Support in the portal or at admission@teachforuzbekistan.org; you can also delete your account yourself on your dashboard.

7. Cookies and changes

The portal uses only strictly necessary cookies: authentication/session, language, and theme. There is no advertising or cross-site tracking.

If this policy changes, the new version will be published here with a new date, and material changes will be announced in the portal.

8. Voluntary support and participation information

In the Personal information step of the application form you may voluntarily tell us about a disability or health condition and the support or accommodations that would help you. Providing this is entirely optional and never affects whether you can continue your application. It is special-category data: it is visible only to the recruitment and selection team (never to external reviewers), it is used solely to arrange reasonable accommodations during selection and the Fellowship, and it is never used as a selection filter.

The application also asks whether you can participate in the program fully and whether you foresee circumstances that could interrupt your participation. These answers are seen only by the recruitment team and are used to assess the program’s essential requirements and to plan support, as described in the Terms of Use and the Participation Requirements.
