Frequently asked questions
Answers about applying to the Teach for Uzbekistan Fellowship. Can't find yours? Write to us — the contact is in the footer of teachforuzbekistan.org.
›Who can apply to the Fellowship?
You need a completed bachelor's degree (or higher) by the programme start, working knowledge of Uzbek or Russian, and readiness to commit to two years of teaching in a placement school. You can check whether you are eligible in a minute with the self-check on teachforuzbekistan.org before you apply.
›How do I apply?
Create an account, read and accept the policies, then fill in the application step by step — personal and passport details, education and languages, motivation answers (30–200 words each), placement preferences, and two documents (passport/ID front side and a photo). It takes about 40 minutes and saves automatically, so you can stop and continue any time.
›Which documents do I need to upload?
At the application stage only two files are required: the front side of your passport/ID card and a recent photo. A CV, diploma and transcript are optional. If you reach the final stages after the Assessment Center, we will ask for your CV, diploma, transcript and other documents, and later for the originals. Each file can be up to 5 MB.
›What file formats are accepted?
Passport/ID, diploma and transcript: PDF, JPG or HEIC (iPhone photos). Photo: JPG or HEIC. CV: PDF or DOCX. Maximum size is 5 MB per file.
›In which language should I write my essays?
Uzbek, Karakalpak, Russian or English — whichever you express yourself best in. The language you choose does not affect your evaluation.
›Can I edit my application after submitting?
No — submission locks the application so every candidate is evaluated on the same version. Check everything on the review step before you submit. If something critical is wrong, contact the TFU team.
›How do I track the status of my application?
Your dashboard shows a live status timeline. You also get an email at every change, and Telegram alerts if you connect the TFU bot from your dashboard.
›How do I connect Telegram alerts?
On your dashboard, press "Connect Telegram", open the link and press Start in the bot. From then on, every status change also arrives as a Telegram message.
›What happens after I submit?
Your application goes to the TFU selection team and is assessed against a public scoring rubric. Shortlisted candidates are invited to a phone interview and then to an Assessment Center; the selection committee then makes the final decision. Your dashboard shows where you are, and we notify you at every step.
›When will I hear back?
Timelines depend on the round and the number of applications, but you never need to ask — every change of your status triggers an email (and Telegram) notification immediately.
›Can I withdraw my application?
Yes — while your application is submitted or under review, open your dashboard, choose “Need to withdraw your application?” and confirm. Withdrawing is final for this round, but you are welcome to apply again in a future round.
›What is the referral code field?
If a current Fellow, alumnus or TFU friend invited you to apply, enter the code they gave you. It's completely optional and doesn't affect your evaluation — it helps TFU thank the people who spread the word.
›How is my personal data protected?
Your data lives in a protected database where access rules are enforced at the database level: reviewers see only what they need for evaluation, and no one outside the admissions team can read your file. Need a copy of your data? Write to the team through Support and we will send it. You can also delete your account from your dashboard at any time.
›I forgot my password — what do I do?
On the sign-in page choose "Forgot your password?" and we’ll email you a secure link to set a new one. If the email doesn’t arrive within a few minutes, check your spam folder or write to us through Support.
