Participation Requirements

12.10.2026

DRAFT — this text is a working draft prepared for review by Teach for Uzbekistan’s legal counsel and has not yet been formally adopted.

1. Essential requirements of the Fellowship

The Fellowship is a full-time, two-year commitment: completing the mandatory 5-week Summer Institute (July–August), teaching full-time at the assigned school in the placement region for two academic years, and taking part in ongoing training and support activities.

These are the program’s essential requirements — they define what every Fellow, without exception, must be able to do.

2. Your declaration

In the application you are asked to declare: (a) whether you can participate in the program fully, and (b) whether you know of any circumstance that may prevent full participation or require you to leave or pause the program during the two years. If yes, you briefly describe it.

Answer honestly. A disclosed circumstance does not automatically end your application — the recruitment team assesses each case individually and, where possible, plans support. Knowingly concealing a material circumstance, however, is grounds for declining the application or withdrawing an offer at any stage.

3. How TFU decides

TFU reserves the right to decline an application or withdraw an offer where a candidate cannot meet the program’s essential requirements, or where material circumstances were knowingly concealed.

Selection decisions are never based on a protected characteristic as such — including gender, marital or family status, pregnancy, disability, or health condition. The only question is whether the essential requirements can be met, with reasonable accommodations where possible, in line with TFU’s non-discrimination policy.

If your application is rejected or waitlisted, you may appeal once in the portal within 14 days of the decision. Appeals are reviewed by the Head of Recruitment and Selection under TFU’s grievance procedure.

4. Support and accommodations

If you have a disability or health condition, you may tell us voluntarily in the application form (Personal information step) and describe the support that would help you at the interview, the assessment center, the Summer Institute, or in the classroom. This information is optional, visible only to the recruitment team, used only to arrange support, and never used as a selection filter.
